Moderate intensity earthquake jolts Valley

Srinagar: A moderate intensity earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale was felt in parts of Kashmir Valley today.

The tremor with latitude 33.8 degrees north and longitude 73.1 degrees east with epicenter in Pakistan region, was felt around 02:29 am today in several parts of the Valley, Director Meteorological Department, Sonam Lotus told Kashmir Reader. However, no reports of loss to property or life were received

On October 8, 2005, a high intensity earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale hit the Valley and Pakistan Administered Kashmir leading to death over a hundred people and causing widespread damage to property.
