Kupwara encounter: Police says bodies of 2 militants recovered

BARAMULLA: Police on Friday said that the encounter between militants and army in Tangdar sector of Kupwara, which had started on Wednesday evening, has ended after bodies of two unidentified militants were found at the site on Friday.
Deputy inspector general of police, north Kashmir, Gareeb Das, said that two bodies were recovered from the area after the encounter. “It is a very far flung area and there is no source of communication but we recovered the dead bodies of two militants from the encounter site,” he said.
The police said that the army handed over the bodies to police station Karnah who after legal formalities asked locals for their burial.
The DIG said that the search operation in the area was still going on.
Sources said that Special Forces of the army along with sniffer dogs were searching Tangdar area along the line of control to “look for more militants.”
On Wednesday army had claimed that a group of three to four militants crossed the LoC after which the encounter started.
The army also claimed the recovery of two AK 47 rifles and other arms and ammunition from the encounter site.
