Indian journalist asks Kashmiris to end struggle, urge for “Azadi”

Srinagar: A senior Indian journalist said on Saturday that the people of Kashmir should shun the ongoing freedom movement because India will never allow that to happen.

“India will never give Independence to Kashmir. Kashmiris must end their struggle and urge for Azadi because many states in India want similar thing,” eminent journalist Kuldeep Nayar said while speaking at a media summit being held at the SKICC here.

The summit is being attended by top notch Indian journalists including Rajdeep Sardesai, Saba Naqvi, Sagarika Ghosh, Saeed Naqvi, Rana Ayyub, Suhasini Haider, Shahid Siddiqui, Deepika Rajawat, Madhu Kishwar and others.

Nayar said that the first Indian Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru through his close aide Lal Bahadur Shastri conveyed to the former Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah that Kashmir should seek freedom from poverty, not India.

“We cannot only think of Kashmir. We have to think of Hindus as well. And we sacrifice anything for it,” Naqvi told the summit.
