SRINAGAR: Deputy director of sericulture department, Abdul Rehman Bhat was Thursday caught ‘accepting a bribe’ by vigilance organization.
In a statement, the vigilance organization said that Bhat was caught red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 12,000 from Ali Mohammad Bhat, a mulberry man, at sericulture office, Budgam.
The complainant had lodged a written complaint with the vigilance on Thursday saying Bhat was demanding the bribe in order to release his arrears due to him for his in-situ promotion.
“On receipt of the complaint, a case was registered and investigation taken up. The trap team headed by Dy. SP Mushtaq Ahmad under the supervision of SSP Vigilance M. S. Punoo laid a successful trap in which Ab. Rehman Bhat of Yaripora, Kulgam, deputy director, sericulture department, Budgam was caught red handed while demanding and accepting bribe amount of Rs 12000 from the complainant,” the statement said.
The accused was arrested on the spot and put behind bars. The entire proceedings were conducted in presence of an independent witness, the vigilance organization said.
