SRINAGAR: Pro-freedom groups on Wednesday took strong exception to the alleged harassment meted out to the Muslims of Jammu by rightwing militant Hindu organizations like Vishwa Hindu Parishad with Dukhtaran-e-millat calling for protests on coming Friday.
Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Geelani said that the Muslims of the Jammu region will not be left at the mercy of “Bajrangi people” and a joint movement along with all the pro-freedom people, will be initiated in this regard.
“BJP and its likeminded parties are preparing to repeat the history of another 1947 in Jammu division however they should know that much water has flown down the River Jehlum and this time the people in Kashmir are very sensitive and cautious with regarding to their Jammu brethren and they will not hesitate in giving any kind of sacrifice to protect the life, dignity, honour and property of their compatriots,” the Hurriyat(G) said in a statement.
The party lashed out at the Mufti Sayed led government for “surrendering Jammu division to BJP-like communal and fascist party and confined themselves just as spectators.” “PDP has now only concern with the chair of power and have handed over the fate of this state to the BJP,” the statement said.
While terming the treatment meted out to the Jammu Muslims as unacceptable and intolerable, the Hurriyat(G) said that a public awareness campaign will be started in the first phase.
“If the activities of the communal forces continued, then a joint movement will be started in the Valley against this and every step will be taken to safeguard the Muslims of the Jammu region,” the statement said.
Expressing her strong reaction and condemning the act of burning of a Kalima inscribed flag in Rajouri, Dukhtaran-e-Millat president Syeda Asiya Andrabi has appealed the people of valley to stage protests after Friday prayers.
In a statement, Andrabi said the “communal forces like VHP and RSS have got a free hand to provoke Muslims by playing with their sentiments.”
She alleged that the already expressed apprehension was becoming clear that Muslims in Jammu division were being provoked with the ill intention of repeating the past and massacring them.
She, however, said that the Muslims of Jammu were not alone as the Muslims of the valley would be at the forefront to help them.
“I appeal the people in the Valley to stage protest demonstrations after Friday prayers to show solidarity with Rajouri Muslims and to make it clear that we are pained and hurt,” she said.
J&K High Court Bar Association Srinagar also strongly condemned the burning of the flags by some miscreants “belonging to BJP-RSS combine” in Rajouri.
In a statement, the Bar said that burning of such flags was not a mere coincidence, but a well-planned conspiracy of Hindu communalists to browbeat the Muslims of Pir Panchal and Chenab valley and to make their life uncomfortable and miserable.
“The Bar Association wants to make it clear to BJP-RSS cadres that by burning flags with Kalima Tayabba written on them, they are going to break India and force the people to ask for another partition. They should know that there are more than 20 crores of Muslims living in India and by burning the flags, which have Kalima Tayabba written on them, they are hurting their religious sentiments and feelings,” the statement said.
