Srinagar-Leh highway closed for traffic

SRINAGAR: The authorities on Friday closed 434-km long Srinagar-Leh highway for traffic due to the landslides triggered by heavy rains and cloudbursts that left at least four people dead.
Officials told Kashmir Reader that hundreds of vehicles have been stranded on the highway as the efforts were being made by the Border Roads Organization (BRO) to clear it from the landslides triggered by heavy rains and cloud burst in Kangan’s Kullan and Gagangeer areas on Thursday evening.
Landslides were reported on both sides of the Zojilla.
Meanwhile, many passengers coming from Kargil and Yatris were stranded for several hours as the authorities were clearing off the blocked road.
