Lal Chowk traders end protest

SRINAGAR: Traders community at commercial hub Lal Chowk Thursday closed down their business establishment against traffic police’s drive to not allow private vehicles to halt for shopping. They, however, resumed business after assurances from authorities.
The traders were agitated over the police’s alleged directions to shoppers to not halt their vehicles in the commercial hub. The move taken to ensure smooth movement ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr was, according to traders, affecting the business activities.
A shopkeeper, Farhan Kitaba, told Kashmir Reader that they went on decided to protest the move and resumed the businesses only on assurance of the superintendent of traffic police.
“We want public transport should be allowed to ply on MA road and private vehicles via Poloview-Ghanta Ghar road. The authorities assured us that the issue will be sorted out, convincing us to resume work,” he said.
Following the agreement, the traders witnessed a rush of shoppers thoughtout the day.
