We don’t know what Kashmir’s Martyrs’ Day is, says BJP

‘I was born in free India and have no knowledge about July 13’, says BJP minister

Srinagar: Adding to the Hindutva camp’s targeting of Martyrs’ Day, and even as the BJP skipped the government’s official function on the day, the PDP’s partner has now said the party “was not aware about the history of July 13 and that it was being observed as Martyrs’ Day. “I don’t know anything about Martyrs’ Day or the official function held in Srinagar to commemorate July 13,” said BJP leader and minister of PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sukhnandhan Kumar in Mufti’s cabinet.
July 13 is officially declared Martyr’s Day to remember the massacre of 22 Kashmiris by the brutal Maharaja’s forces in 1931. But BJP leaders were glaringly absent even as CM Mufti Sayeed and cabinet colleagues paid floral tributes to the 1931 martyrs at the Martyrs Graveyard in the old city.
“I was born in free India and have no knowledge about July 13 being observed as national Martyrs’ Day of Jammu and Kashmir,” Kumar claimed. And then, the minister went on to express full faith in the leadership of the CM and said there was no rift within the coalition partners.
