Retired ASP shot dead in Kulgam

ANANTNAG: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a retired police officer in Ashmuji village of southern Kulgam district late on Tuesday night. The gunmen fired on the retired cop, Bashir Ahmad Dar, at around 11:45 pm when he was returning home after offering Tarawee prayers in a local mosque. He was immediately taken to district hospital Anantnag where doctors, after giving him some first aid, referred him to SKIMS Srinagar, where he was pronounced dead.
A police officer posted in the area said that as per their information two motorcycle-borne militants fired at the slain person from close range. “The slain seemed to have been shot with a pistol. He had received three bullets, in the arm, shoulder and abdomen,” the police officer said. He also said the police has registered a case and started investigations: “Militants are surely behind the killing but we are yet to ascertain which outfit is responsible.”
The killed cop had been appointed in the police department as Assistant sub-Inspector (ASI) but was promoted to the rank of deputy superintendent of police. He also served in the vigilance organisation and crime branch for several years. He retired in 2012 as Additional SP Pulwama and was afterwards running a gas agency.
