Pak targets border villages with mortars, 4 injured: Army

Jammu: The Pakistan army today violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch sector, firing at various posts of the Indian army, an army officer said.

He said the Pakistan army used small arms and automatic fire targeting Indian posts, they also used mortar shells to target Indian positions on this side of the LoC, he said.

He said the Indian side retaliated to the fire.

The army early this morning foiled an infiltration bid along the LoC in Poonch district by a group of militants trying to enter the Indian side, the defence spokesman said.

The alert troops guarding the border fired upon the militants and foiled the infiltration bid, he added.

Pakistan Rangers had yesterday opened ‘sniper fire’ on a BSF constable guarding a border outpost along the IB in Kanachak sector of Akhnoor tehsil in Jammu district. As BSF personnel tried to evacuate the injured jawan, they came under heavy fire, whereupon they retaliated.

Two jawans, Anjani Kumar and YP Tiwari, were among the six persons injured in the firing, the spokesman said, adding that the exchanges were restricted to the Akhnoor-Kanachak sectors with five Border Out Posts (BoPs) on the Indian side coming under attack. (PTI)
