Army informer has made lives of Sopore residents “hellish”: Geelani

Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani on Wednesday alleged that a pro-government gunman, with army’s active support has made the lives of Tarzoo residents in Sopore “hellish”.

“The army has once again become pro-active in the valley and they have started harassing the common people on 90s pattern. An Ikhwani working with Indian Army in the Tarzoo Sopore camp and with the help of army, he has made the lives of the people living in that area a hell,” Geelani said in a statement issued here this evening.

He said on the informer’s instance, a civilian Lateef Ahmad Bhat was arrested by the army and later handed over to the SOG in cargo where he was subjected to “worst kind of custodial torture”.

“The army also raided the house of Waseem Ahmad Bhat and vandalized his entire house and looted precious items there,” he said.

Demanding the release of all the political prisoners before Eid, the veteran resistance leader urged the Amnesty International and other human rights organization to take serious notice of the conditions of the Kashmiri detainees.
