Srinagar: While reacting to the assertions of Pakistan’s national security advisor Sartaj Aziz, Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front chairman, Yasin Malik, on Sunday said that discussing Kashmir through back channel diplomacy amounted to insulting the Kashmiri nation.
After Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan met in Russia and avoided any reference to Kashmir in their joint statement, Sartaj Aziz had stated that Kashmir issue would be discussed using back channel diplomacy.
Malik said Aziz’s words were like rubbing salt on the wounds of Kashmiris who have “lost their four generations for their freedom and a peaceful resolution to this dispute.”
“By not mentioning Kashmir in joint declaration and now saying that this will be taken during back door diplomacy is actually an indication that India and Pakistan want to put Kashmir on back burner,” said Yasin Malik while referring to the recent meeting of Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan in Russia.
He said that Kashmiris are not a group of “dumb animals” that someone would impose his will to decide about their political future.
“The joint declaration issued in Russia between India and Pakistan, except Kashmir dispute, mentioned everything. The declaration proved the fact that Indian point of view about Kashmir got an acceptance,” Malik said.
“Now when the reality is clear why is Aziz issuing misleading statements that Kashmir will be discussed during back door diplomacy. Who is he trying to befool?” questioned Malik.
Malik said that the two countries cannot prosper and progress while keeping the entire Kashmiri nation as hostage for “their petty gains.”
Yasin Malik said that if India, Pakistan and the international community were serious about peaceful south Asia, they would have to accept Kashmiris as principle party to the dispute, include them in dialogue process and find a lasting solution to the Jammu Kashmir dispute.
