Police detain several pro-freedom leaders in city

Srinagar: Several pro-freedom leaders were detained today by police when they tried to march to the shrine of Naqshbandh Sahab (RA) in the Old Coty here to pay homage to the July 13 martyrs.

Hilal Ahmad War and Javed Ahmad Mir were arrested today when they were on their way to the Old City here to participate in the joint rally of Azadi camp, which was foiled by authorities with curbs, witnesses told Kashmir Reader. A march led by Abdul Ahad Para of Muslim league to the Old City was also foiled by police in Shaheed Gunj area of this capital city.

“Many activists were bundled in a police van and whisked to the nearby police station,” witnesses said.
