PDP MP attacked by youth in Kulgam

Anantnag: Police burst teargas canisters and fired warning shots in Bugam village of Kulgam after a senior leader of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Rajya Sabha member Nazir Ahmad Laway was attacked by a group of youth with stones this afternoon.

Laway was on way to the government higher secondary school when a group of youth pelted his cavalcade with stones and rocks this afternoon, witnesses told Kashmir Reader. The youth, who were angry on MP’s visit to the area also tried to barge into the school.

“Cops burst teargas canisters after they failed to disperse the stone pelting youth. However, the boys regrouped and continued renewed assaults. Later, warning shots were fired by the policemen to scare away the angry protesters,” witnesses said, adding “A Bolero car was also torched by the protesters,”

While the PDP MP has been escorted safely by his security guards, the clashes between the police and the stone throwers were going on when the last reports came in.
