Massive protests in Ruhama after police van injures a govt employee

Baramulla: Angry protesters have set fire to a police vehicle after it hit and injured critically a government employee in Ruhama area of this north Kashmir district.

Scores of people, mostly young men hit the streets in Ruhama after a police vehicle hit and injured Abdur Rashid Dar, a store keeper in the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) department this afternoon, witnesses told Kashmir Reader. While Dar, a resident of Shultoo village was instantly removed to the hospital for treatment, the locals staged anti-Police demonstrations accusing the driver of rash driving.

“Angry protesters set fire to the police vehicle that hit the employee. Police responded by using batons and firing hurling teargas canisters to disperse them. This led to the outbreak of fierce clashes,” witnesses said.

According to the witnesses, additional reinforcements have been rushed to the area to contain the situation. The clashes were going on when the last reports came in.
