Asiya condemns nocturnal raids, arrests of youth

Srinagar: Dukhtaran-e-Millat president Syeda Asiya Andrabi on Wednesday condemned the nocturnal raids and arrests of old city youth.
In a statement, she asked the resistance camp to formulate a joint strategy to counter the police action against the youth.
“Dozens of youth including children have been arrested from different parts of old city and have been lodged in police lockups where they are subjected to the worst kind of torture even in the holy month of Ramdan,” she said.
“It is condemnable that police and other government forces have launched a crackdown against the city youth with the onset of Ramadan and it has intensified the nocturnal raids,” she added.
She said that the harassment has forced many youth to go underground. “The arrested youth are harassed and threatened to be booked under PSA and are asked for hefty ransom.”
“The entire pro-freedom leadership needs to think over the dirty games being played, by the PDP-led government on the tunes of RSS, and devise a counter strategy to counter its moves,” she added.
