Police, army has unleashed reign of terror: HCBA

SRINAGAR: High Court Bar Association (HCBA) on Tuesday condemned the cordoning and search operations in Baramulla, Pulwama and Shopian districts and night raids in Srinagar and other districts of the valley.
In a statement, the Bar general secretary Mohammad Ashraf Bhat said that “police and army has unleashed a reign of terror in these districts by arresting innocent people and booking them in false cases and putting them behind the bars without trial.”
He said that at a time when Amnesty International and other Human Rights Organizations have recommended the repeal of AFSPA and other draconian laws from J&K, conducting of nocturnal raids and cordoning of residential areas during night hours in the Holy month of Ramadan was “barbaric and against all norms of human decency.” He also said that the Bar Association also expresses its concern over the arrest of three labourers in Sangrawani area of Pulwama district by the army.
