JAMMU: People of Jammu are up in arms against the government owing to prolonged power cuts and shortage of drinking water during summer.
Protest demonstrations were held in many parts of the Jammu city and adjoining areas accusing power development and public heath engineering departments of completely failing to provide basic amenities like power and water supply to the people of the state.
The people preferred to remain indoors throughout the day on Sunday owing to intense heat. Normal life including trade activity was affected as markets and other public places gave a deserted look during the day. “It is difficult to spend these hot and humid days without power and drinking water. Despite assurances by government, nothing has been done on the ground so far,” said a resident of Jammu-East constituency.
“Our children and elderly are facing difficulties due to the scorching heat and humidity. PDD has left no stone unturned to make people suffer in the month of Ramadan by resorting to 10 to 15 hour-long curtailments,” he said.
