Kangan residents demand potable water supply


Kangan: Residents of Hariganiwan area of Kangan on Monday protested against Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department for failing to restore potable water supply to the area since past three days.
Witnesses said that the protestors blocked Srinagar-Leh highway disrupting traffic movement for several hours.
Reports said that due to the blockade of the road, the commuters and Amarnath Yatra pilgrims remained stranded near Hariganiwan for at least three hours.
The residents of the area alleged that their village was without potable water since past three days and despite repeated requests to PHE employees to restore drinking water supply,no action has been taken so far. The PHE Department is forcing us to come on roads in this pious month, a protestor said. Later on, In charge SHO of Police Station Gund , Abdul Majid rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors assuring them that their problem will be redressed. After assurances , the protestors dispersed peacefully.
