Body of Shopian teenager recovered from dam, male body found in Leh

SRINAGAR: Police on Sunday recovered the body of a teenager who had drowned in Kadagam dam in Shopian, besides recovering an unidentified male body from Basgo area of Leh District.
A police spokesman said that Shopian police and a team of army men, after hectic efforts, retrieved the body of 17-year-old Sameer Ahmad Teli, a resident of Dagapora, who had drowned while taking a bath in the dam.
“The boy had drowned in Kadagam Dam while taking a bath on Saturday afternoon. After receiving this information, Shopian police along with the Marine Commandos (MARCOS) immediately reached the spot and started the search. The body of the drowned boy was fished out today after the hard efforts of the joint team,” the spokesman said.
The spokesman said that an unidentified male body was recovered in Basgo area of Leh District on Saturday evening.
“Some locals informed Leh police that a body is lying on the Indus riverbank near Basgo village. The police party immediately rushed to the spot and recovered the body,” the spokesman said.
The official said that the body of the deceased is lying in mortuary room of SNM hospital, Leh, for identification.
“The police has started the investigation under section 174 CrPC to ascertain his identity and the cause of the death,” the spokesman added.
