SRINAGAR: The JK Special Tribunal has directed Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to seal a private hospital in Sonawar area in Srinagar after it was found violating its orders to stop construction work on its premises.
Earlier, the proprietor of the Kidney hospital and former principal Government Medical College, Srinagar Dr Muneer Khan was asked not to raise any construction with an undertaking if he violates it, a penalty of Rs 5 lakh would be slapped against him.
“This Tribunal has received a report from the concerned Ward Officer, wherein he has reported that the Appellant has wilfully and intentionally violated the orders of Status-quo on spot in contravention to the orders. Therefore, the (SMC) Commissioner is directed to seal the premises forthwith and a compliance report be filed positively on Monday,” read an order undersigned by Chairperson of the Tribunal Sonali Kumar.
SMC commissioner said they would seal the portion where the violations have taken place. “We will seal the illegally raised portion but not hospital because patients are admitted there,” he said.
After the sealing, penalty shall be incurred on Khan in accordance with the bond executed by him and the amount shall be deposited with SMC accordingly, Kumar said.
The Tribunal has also sought the presence of Khan in person as to why show contempt proceedings would not be initiated against him for “willful disobedience” of the orders.
The SMC has launched a drive against the illegal constructions in its jurisdiction.
