Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani and his associates were detained today by police to scuttle their rally in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
The veteran resistance leader was taken into custody and shifted to Humhama police station this morning when he tried to break police cordon and move towards south Kashmir’s Anantnag, where he was expected to address a rally, Hurriyat spokesman, Ayaz Akber told Kashmir Reader.
“Police also arrested Raja Mehraj-ud-din Kalwal, Zahoor Geelani, Yasmin Raja and over a dozen leaders and activists,” he said.
Akber said that the arrested of Hurriyat leadership has proved that the statement of DGP police terming Geelani as a free man is a lie.
“We have proved that Geelani Sahab is not a free man and that DGP issued baseless and misleading statements. The arrested of our chairman has also proved that Mufti Mohammad Sayed’s so-called battle of ideas is a farce,” he said.
Mufti, Akber said that was following footsteps of Omar Abdullah by keeping the ailing leader confined to his house.
