SRINAGAR: The government has assured to clear the pending bills of the contractors before Eid-ul-Fitr.
An press statement issued here said a delegation of J&K Contractors Coordination Committee (JKCCC), led by Kashmir Economic Alliance’s Chairman Mohammad Yaseen Khan, met the Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu.
It said the Chairman JKCCC, Ghulam Jeelani Purza, explained the problems of the contractors to the minister, who listened to them in a very “cordial and fruitful” manner.
Drabu, it said, advised the contractors not to undertake any works on verbal orders of any authority in the government and to demand “some kind of written order” for the urgent works.
“Secretary Finance, Arun Chowdery, was asked to issue formal orders for release of payments before Eid, deduction of sales tax on works completed in the previous financial year at 10.5and %, and making departments responsible for getting clearances instead of the contractors,” the statement said.
