Geelani will offer Friday prayers at Anantnag to test DGP’s claims, reiterates Hurriyat (G)

SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference (G) Wednesday said that the party chairman Syed Ali Geelani will be offering Friday congregational prayers at Anantnag and will be addressing a gathering there on July 3 to “test the statement of Director General of Police, K Rajendra.”
Rajendra recently said that Geelani, who has been under house arrest for most part of the past five years, is a “free man unless he disturbs law and order situation”.
In a statement, a Hurriyat (G) spokesman said the previous government in November 2013 ended the house detention process of Geelani, after which Hurriyat Conference organized five mega public gatherings at Sopore, Shopian, Kupwara, Pulwama and Kulgam which witnessed the huge participation of the general public.
“Hypothesis of the DG police that ‘wherever Geelani Sahab visits, stone pelting starts there’, is a lie.Not a single incident of stone pelting happened in the mega public gatherings of Geelani Sahab in November 2013,” he added.
The spokesman said that if Geelani was allowed to take part in the proposed Islamabad program of July 3, no stone pelting incident will occur there and it will be a disciplined and peaceful public gathering like the earlier programs.
“But if police continues to detain Geelani within his house on that day, then the statement of the DG police will prove to be a blatant lie,” he added.
