BUDGAM: Hurriyat(M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday led a massive rally in Budgam accusing Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) of becoming a tool in the hands of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to change the Muslim identity of Kashmir.
Hundreds of people listened to the leader’s sermon at Jamia Masjid Budgam during Friday prayers. After the prayers, youth assembled at the main chowk of the town shouting anti-India and pro-freedom slogans.
Addressing the gathering along with senior Hurriyat(M) leader Agha Syed Hassan Al Moosvi, Mirwaiz blamed the present government of being “brutal and authoritarian”.
Mirwaiz said that the government was ‘deliberately committing gross state sponsored violence’ against the common people of Kashmir to create fear among them’. “The state kills, maims, and jails to intimidate people and break their will,” Mirwaiz charged.
He said that the Indian state, under the influence of RSS and VHP, was trying hard to ‘dilute the Muslim identity of Kashmir using various agencies’.
Blaming PDP of being a party to these designs, he said that present government has surrendered before the RSS.
“PDP promised zero tolerance towards human rights violation, release of all political prisoners and revoking AFSPA but once they came to power, they forgot the promises and instead began to arrest the youth and kill them,” he said.
Mirwaiz said that ‘occupiers only change the faces and in reality all the pro-Indian parties speak the language of New Delhi under various guises like ‘soft separatism’ in case of PDP’.
“Whether it is National Conference or PDP, they have always deceived the people and in fact are promoting what New Delhi wants them to promote” he said.
Mirwaiz also alarmed the people of the “nefarious designs” of the state to create divide among the people on the basis of sects.
Raising slogans of Shia-Sunni Bhai Bhai, he said that in order to achieve the goal of freedom, people must be united.
“Whether you are a Wahhabi or a Barelvi , Sunni or Shia , Muslim or Hindu , we all must remain united and should respect each other’s beliefs ,” he said .
He further criticized India for projecting Kashmir as a bilateral issue.
“Hurriyat’s policy is that right to self-determination be given to all the three regions of Jammu and Kashmir and even Azad Kashmir and then let people decide for themselves ,” he said.
