Ganderbal: An irrigation canal at Pather Khah, Ganderbal that once irrigated hundreds of acres of land has been clogged due to encroachment.
As per reports the irrigation canal has been encroached upon by several locals and has now shrunk to a large extent.
The locals alleged that the negligence of Irrigation and Flood Control Department towards the prolonged encroachments has damaged the canal.
“This canal used to spread on a vast land, however, due to encroachments it has shrunk to few meters,” Ab Hamid, a local, told Kashmir Reader.
He said that the overflow in the shrunk canal was damaging the paddy fields. “ For decades, there has been no measure taken to clear the encharoachments or to de-silt the canal.”
When contacted, Deputy Commissioner Ganderba, Showkat Aijaz Bhatl assured that the encroachments will be removed from the irrigation canal. “I will personally see that the encroachments are removed from the canal.”
