SRINAGAR: A hardware firm, Arosons Industries, was penalized Thursday by the Legal Metrology Department over violation of the labeling norms.
During a surprise inspection of a retailer at Hawal Chowk here, the Legal Metrology Officer concerned found sticker mentioning exaggerated price hiding the original price tag on boxes of pipe-fittings, an official handout issued here said.
The original price tag for Rs 30 was replaced with Rs 79 tag, it said.
The act, the release said, is against the norms as, under Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules 2011, the MRP once fixed by a manufacturer cannot be even altered by the manufacturer itself.
“A fine of Rs 8,000 was imposed on the firm while it was directed to strictly adhere to the labeling norms as envisaged under Legal Metrology Packaged Commodities) Rules 2011,” it said.
