SRINAGAR: Basharat Mustafa Fazili Saturday assumed office of Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Punjab National Bank, J&K Circle.
Son of the soil, Fazili was born on August 3, 1955 in Srinagar. He started his banking career by joining banking industry in 1977, and rose through the ranks by becoming Senior Manager in 2000, Chief Manager in 2007 and Assistant General Manager in 2010.
He has worked in almost all key segments of banking in various capacities with expertise in fields such as Credit, Foreign Exchange, and Risk Management at various branches and controlling offices including Amira Kadal and Dalgate in Srinagar, Koushambi in Ghaziabad and Hissar in Haryana.
In his long and brilliant banking career, Fazili was the Assistant General Manager at Circle Office Hissar, Haryana & later at Circle Office Jammu.
A CAIIB with B Sc background, Fazili has undergone many prestigious courses like Postgraduate Degree in Financial Advising and Certified Financial Planner from Financial Standard Board of India (FSBI).
Fazili said his priorities would be to reach out to the people of the state with a soft attitude to provide credit facilities to them, as J&K is different from other Circles.
He said his focus is on MSME for which the Bank has already started holding regular camps in the state.
Along with it, he said, NPA reduction is a big challenge for which special recovery camps would be regularly held.
The Bank is also planning massive expansion in the state and, in next two quarters, is expected to open 10 new branches in J&K. The process for opening five branches at Narwal and Bohri in Jammu, Budgam and Hazratbal in Srinagar, Kargil in Ladakh has already started, he informed.
Under Prdan Mantri Jan Dan Yojna, the Bank has opened 1.03 lacs account in the state. For Financial Inclusion 78 out of 87 Business Correspondent sites have already been activated to cover more and more unbanked areas in the state.
