Cops must appear before court in uniform: HC

Srinagar: The J&K High Court has directed Director General of Police to issue a circular, directing all police officers or officials, appearing before the court regarding any case, shall be in proper uniform.
The direction was passed by a bench of Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey while hearing a case wherein a police official from crime branch had appeared along-with case-diary in civvies before it.
The court also asked state counsel, advocate Shuja-ul-Haq, to apprise the DGP about the issuance of a circular in general that henceforth whenever any police officer or official shall have to appear before the Court in respect of any case shall be in proper uniform.
While taking a lenient view regarding the “casual” approach of the police official present in the case, the court asked him to remain cautious in future.
The direction followed submissions by petitioner’s counsel advocate G A Lone, inviting the court’s attention towards improper dressing of the official.
