2 cops arrested, probe ordered

Srinagar: The government has tasked additional deputy commissioner of Budgam to investigate into the killing and asked him to submit his report within 15 days. The probe was ordered after the police said it has arrested assistant sub-inspector of police Manzoor Ahmad and constable Javaid Ahmad in “connection with the killing of the teenager”.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that constable Javaid Ahmad had fired with his service rifle on the directions of in charge police party ASI Manzoor Ahmad, in violation of laid down Standard Operating Procedure. Both the ASI and Constable have been arrested
in the instant case and further investigation is underway,” a police spokesman said.
The spokesman said the police fired to control the crowd of “stone pelters, resulting in injuries to one Suhail Ahmad Sofi who later succumbed to his injuries”.
They said police registered a case under FIR No 34/2015 under sections 302,147,149,341,427 RPC in Police Station Magam, Budgam.
The spokesman said Station House Officer Khursheed-ur-Rehman has been attached for lack of supervision.
