SRINAGAR: The state’s Minister for Education and PDP’s senior leader Naeem Akhter Thursday termed Jammu and Kashmir as a “unique tourist destination” that offers an amalgamation of heritage, pilgrim, and adventure tourism.
“Tourism is the backbone of the state’s economy and government will make all efforts to promote and package its tourism potential,” Naeem said at the Tourism Festival at New Delhi.
The Make My Trip Tourism Festival, organised with the theme ‘rediscover Kashmir’, saw participation from tourism players including representatives of hotel and travel fraternity, people from Bollywood, and media persons.
Inviting tourists to visit JK, the Minister said there are a lot of “positives” in Kashmir for all the tourist players and the government will act as an “enabler to provide better facilities and infrastructure to attract new and high-end tourists”.
JK’s Tourism Department, he said, wants to send out a positive message regarding tourism atmosphere in the state and the tourism players should help the state in this endeavour.
He called “effective marketing” at the national and international levels as the need of the hour to promote J&K as an “ideal” tourist destination.
“Along with famous tourist destinations of the state, the government is working on a comprehensive plan to bring newer and virgin tourist destinations like Bhaderwah, Gurez, Kokernag, and Daksum on the tourist map,” he said.
“For this,” he added, “the state would provide greater accessibility to these new destinations and create high-end infrastructure at existing ones so that a new class of visitors is attracted to JK”.
Farooq Shah, who is Managing Director of JKTDC and Director Tourism Kashmir, said media fraternity is like an ambassador of the state for promotion of its tourism potential.
