SRINAGAR: The government Wednesday constituted a committee for shifting of oil depots and bottling plants in Jammu from residential areas to safer locations.
In a high-level meeting of oil companies and concerned departments held to discuss the modalities for shifting of oil depots and bottling plants, Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Choudhary Zulfkar Ali asked the Divisional Commissioner Jammu to constitute the committee.
The committee is to comprise of ACRs of Jammu, Udhampur and Samba districts, representatives of oil companies, forest department and Wildlife Warden concerned to identify suitable location for relocating oil depots.
He asked the committee to submit its report within a week. “The land should be away from residential area to avoid any eventuality as happened in Jaipur,” he said, asking the concerned departments “to prioritize identification of suitable land for establishment of three oil depots at same location or to make it possible to set up these units at three different patches in same district”.
“Ensure that the land is located near good road and is accessible with railway connectivity,” he told the authorities, urging upon them to complete the process on fast track basis so as to begin work on the projects within minimum possible time. The Minister said he would take up “this vital matter” with the Chief Minister to work out an “effective mechanism” for smooth functioning of the companies.
