Contractor flouting norms: Chattabal residents

Srinagar: The residents of Bag-e-Sundar Bala, Dareish Kadal Chattabal Wednesday alleged that the contractor constructing a sewage drain in the area was flouting norms by ignoring the set procedures of laying drains
As per norms, they said, the old dilapidated drain should have been dismantled and then laid afresh. “However, the local contractor who has received the tender completely overlooked the norms. He did not dismantle the old drain but instead repaired it,” said a group of locals from the area.
The residents alleged that the contractor was being abetted by few of the senior officials of Roads and Blocks, Sewage and Drainage, Division 3rd Shireen Bagh Srinagar.
The residents warned that the area would witness massive water logging if the drain was not properly laid.
“We went to the concerned departments and put our grievances before them. They assured us that they would take action,” the residents said. “The contractor stopped the work during day. But he continued with the work during night hours”.
When contacted Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Executive Engineer Civil Drainage Madan Lal assured that he would take all steps to stop the work undertaken by the contractor.
