SRINAGAR: Netizens on Tuesday criticized both the factions of Hurriyat for confining the strike call against ‘civilian’ killing in Tral only to the district of Pulwama.
People on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter questioned was to why Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq did not extend the call for entire Kashmir Valley.
“Why to localize the issue, it should be for the whole valley,” wrote Altaf Wani on Facebook.
“Is Hurriyat attempting to divide people of Kashmir by issuing town wise hartal (shutdown),” charged Muneeb ul Islam.
The post elicited many responses. Adney Dar, his friend wrote, “Who follows them.”
However many people posted in favor of the protest programs also.
“It is not about divide and rule policy,” defended Javeed Ganie, another facebook user.
On Tuesday both the groups of Hurriyat issued a protest calendar against the killing of Khalid Muzaffar Wani. Hurriyat (G) wanted people in Tral to observe shutdown while as Hurriyat (M) called for shutdown in entire Pulwama district.
Hurriyat (G) spokesperson Ayaz Akbar, said ‘the program was given by Geelani sahib who is our leader. He knows which program to give at what point of time to people and what not.”
Hurriyat (M) spokesperson Sahid ul Islam said, “As the programs are for the whole week, we had to restrict the strike to Pulwama because of Friday.”
