SRINAGAR: A joint team of officials Tuesday visited orchards in the flood-hit areas of north Kashmir to assess the losses and suggest remedies to farmers.
According to an official handout issued here, the team comprised of officers from Horticulture Department, SKUAST-K’s scientists from disciplines such as fruit science, plant pathology, soil science, and scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendras at Bandipora and Kupwara.
It visited the orchards in Mirgund, Naidkhia, Poshwari Naidkhia, Gund Jahangir and other adjoining areas, which suffered maximum damage due to the floods of September 2014 and excessive rainfall in March, it said. The farmers received demonstration and written advisories from the team to overcome the problems in their flood-hit orchards, it said.
“In this regard, a joint advisory from Department of Horticulture and SKUAST-K will also be issued soon through electronic and print media,” it added.
