Another BJP MLA face allegations of harassment in Jammu

JAMMU: One month after Bharatiya Janata Party leader and state health minister was accused of harassment by a lady doctor, another party leader and MLA R.S Pura Dr Gagan Bhagat allegedly ransacked official records and misbehaved with government employees in Mira Sahib Block of Jammu.
Employees of Rural Development Department (RDD) at Mira Sahib Monday suspended their work in protest against the MLA for misbehaving with them and ‘snatching the office records’ during a visit to the block on Saturday. Bhagat rejected the allegations.
Block Development Officer Nazia Choudhary, while speaking to Kashmir Reader, said that Bhagat along with 20 to 25 persons visited her office on Saturday.
“I was no leave on that day and my colleagues apprised me about the MLA’s misbehavior who forcibly tried to snatch the office records at gun point,” Choudhary said.
“In this context, I have written to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP National General Secretary Amit Shah and State General Secretary Ashok Koul including RDD Minister Abdul Haq Khan to personally intervene in the matter and take action against the concerned MLA,” she informed.
When contacted MLA Gagan Bhagat alleged that some elements with vested interests were trying to exploit the situation. “The allegations against me are baseless,” he said.
Meanwhile many sarpanchs and panchs of Mira Sahib Block came out in support of the block employees.
They assembled in the premises of BDO office and staged protest demonstration against Dr Gagan Bhagat.
“This kind of misconduct by a person having such a stature is highly obnoxious and cannot be tolerated in a civilized society,” they said.
Demanding immediate stern action against the MLA, Mira Sahib Sarpanch Association President Madan Lal Sharma alleged that Bhagat was habitual of creating scenes only to get undue public attention.
“We appeal Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take strong note of the incident. If no action was taken and the arrogant behavior of the MLA was not controlled, we will start resigning en masse,” Sharma said.
