Flood-hit Baramulla traders demand compensation

Baramulla: The Traders Federation Baramulla Friday demanded compensation against the damages inflicted on them by the floods.
General Secretary of the Federation, Tariq Ahmad Magloo, told Kashmir Reader that the traders in this north Kashmir district suffered massive damage due to the floods last year.
As per the government statement, he said, around 2,000 families lost their residential houses and other properties to landslides and floods.
“The government shall provide them compensation,” he said.
Besides the standing crops, hundreds of people lost their orchards and fields, which were their only sources of livelihood.
“We met Deputy Chief Minister Dr Niral Singh, Minister for law and Parliamentary Affairs Syeed Basharat Bukhari, and other ministers. They assured us that complete relief will be provided to the business community, but we are still waiting for the help to arrive,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Greater Baramulla Forum met Deputy Commissioner (DC) concerned, seeking solution to the problems faced by people in the district.
The Forum informed the DC about the condition of the roads, river banks, drainage system, water supply schemes, and power supply system.
The DC assured them that he would try to resolve the issues.
