Budgam: Out of 37 employees working at Block Development Office(BDO) Khag, 30 have not been transferred for years.
An RTI filed by Nazir Ahmed Lone has revealed that 5 Village Level Workers working there have not been transferred from last 6-8 years; 6 Multi Purpose Workers from last 4-7 years, 5 Supervisors from last 18 -25 years
A junior assistant and 2 Junior Engineers have not been transferred from last 4 years, while orderly has held the same position for 34 years, the RTI has revealed.
Similarly, 2 WSs have not been transferred from last 7 and 9 years, and 8 helpers have held their positions from last 14 – 27 years.
“Corruption is rampant at BDO Khag and employees demand hefty bribes for even menial works from people,” Lone told Kashmir Reader.
Blaming the non transfer of the employees as the main reason for the corruption, local residents said that the employees have turned the office into a “den of thugs”.
“They do nothing without bribes. They are running a racket,” Ghulam Hasan Ganie, a local resident.
The residents of the Khag Block claimed that “rampant corruption” is going on in the Block Development office Khag and that the residents are “forced” to pay huge amounts of money for small works in the villages.
When contacted, Deputy Commissioner Budgam Mir Altaf admitted that there was “something wrong” with the BDO office and non- transfer of employees over such long periods of time was against the norms. He assured that “strict action” will be taken against the violators. “ I assure you that we will take the action in the matter,” Altaf said.
