3 resolutions moved by opposition MLCs passed


JAMMU: The coalition government on Thursday had to face embarrassment in Legislative Council after three private members resolutions moved by opposition were passed after they were put to vote following MLCs refusal to withdraw them.
However, three opposition private members Naresh Kumar Gupta, Sham Lal Bhagat and Ghulam Nabi Monga withdrew their resolutions after getting assurance from the government.
As many as six Resolutions were moved by different Private Members in the House out of which, the resolutions moved by Dr. Shehnaz Ganai, Dr. Bashir Ahmad Veeri and Jugal Kishore were adopted after being put to vote.
After half an hour discussion with government, the members moved their resolutions in the house.
The coalition, a minority in the Upper House with just 10 members, was compelled to adopt their resolutions
The Resolution of Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri calls for creation of a Scientific Commission in the backdrop of last year’s devastation caused by the floods in the State, besides urging the Government of India to construct an alternate flood channel and increasing carrying capacity of river Jhelum to save the Srinagar city from future floods.
The resolution also recommends to government of India to construct an alternate flood channel to save city of Srinagar and also increase capacity of river Jhelum to one lakh twenty thousand cusecs to save Kashmir for future generations.
The Resolution moved by Dr. Shahnaz Ganai pertains to allotment of five Marlas of land to the persons living along International Border and Line of Control.
Another Opposition Congress MLC Jugal Kishore has recommended the House that huge expenditure incurred in the name of flood protection on both sides of River Chenab in Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban, Reasi and Akhnoor be probed through Vigilance as the areas had to suffer huge damages to life and property due to flash flood in September 2014 and February and March this year.
