Govt promises ‘focused attention’ to artisans

SRINAGAR: The state government will give “focused attention” to socioeconomic development of the artisans to boost the Kashmir’s handicraft industry, Minister of State for Industries, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, said Friday.
“…The socioeconomic development of Kashmiri artisan will be given focused attention by the government to boost the world-famous handicraft industry,” Mir said in his first meeting with the employees of Kashmir Arts Emporium and Silk Factory here.
The Kashmiri artisans, he said, have “golden hands” and their handmade products have been fascinating the customers in the global market since centuries
A large section of the Valley’s population is associated with the sector, which is “an important component of state’s economy”, he added.
