Graveyard water-logged in Sonawari, residents protest

Bandipora: The residents of Baharabad, Sonawari here Thursday held a protest against district administration for failing to drain out water from a graveyard in the area.
The protestors said that despite repeated the authorities were not installing the de-watering pumps to drain out the water from the graveyard.
As per reports, protesters blocked the Hajin-Srinagar road and disrupted the traffic movement for several hours. “The graveyard is full of water and authorities are paying no heed to our repeated pleas,” Abdul Majeed, a protestor, told Kashmir reader
The protesters said that due to persistent water logging, several cemeteries sunk on Wednesday.
The protesters appealed the concerned authority to install pumps to drain out the water from the graveyard.
Meanwhile, residents of Sumabal, Sonawari also held protest demanding de-watering of several colonies in the area.
When contacted, SDM Sumbal Ghulam Mohammad Bhat assured that de-watering process will be taken up on Friday.
