SRINAGAR: A theme-based high-end fleet of luxurious buses was launched here Thursday to provide better facilities to tourists visiting the Kashmir Valley.
Launched by Kehwah Express Services private limited, the fleet, called ‘Onwheels’, has been introduced to provide the services such as hotel spa, cafe, caravan, and vanity van to the tourists.
The fleet includes six categories—Paradise Onwheels, CASA Onwheels, Explore Onwheels, Café Onwheels, and Care Onwheels.
The group had introduced radio taxi service for the first time in the Valley in 2010.
The GPS-fitted coaches come with LCDs, shoulder and leg massagers, infotainment systems, pushback seats, and other business-class facilities.
The fleet consists of four types of hi-tech buses, providing “unmatched fun-filled and safe travel options” to the tourists, the group said.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Education Minister Naeem Akhter said the tourism potential of old Srinagar remained untapped during the past many years.
“Down town is a gold mine of architecture and knowledge, but over the years, due to the wrong policies and decisions of previous governments and bad luck, it remained untapped,” he said.
Praising the Kehwah group for the initiative, he said, “There was a need to enhance tourism industry in the Valley and need is to develop its infrastructure based on innovative ideas. Kehwah Onwheels is one such idea.”
Minister for Public Works Department, Altaf Bukhari, said the service was “much needed” in the Valley.
“Initiatives like this will make Kashmiris proud,” he said.
Director Tourism, Farooq Ahmad Shah, also praised the Kehwah group, and asked people of the Valley to take a cue from the initiative.
