SRINAGAR: The proposal for creation of Tourism Development Authority for Gurez “was processed and subsequently taken up” by the government, Minister for Horticulture, Haj and Auquaf, Abdul Rehman Veeri, said Tuesday.
Replying to a question by Nazir Ahmed Gurezi in the Assembly in Jammu, he said the government has taken up the proposal with Planning and Development Department.
“Appropriate action in the matter will follow after examination of the reports,” he said. The Minister said numerous places in Kashmir division, including Gurez Valley, have potential to be developed as tourist destinations.
“Gurez valley has been identified as tourist destination and the department has created substantial tourist-related infrastructure there,” he added.
In reply to another question by MLA Engineer Abdul Rashid, Veeri said the government would “fully explore possibilities to promote the tourism potential of Bungus valley.”
He said “focussed attention” would be given to upgrade tourist-related infrastructure in the area.
The government, he said, has already set up Lolab-Bungus-Drangyari Tourism Development Authority with an aim to exploit the area’s tourism potential, he said, adding that infrastructure has been upgraded at potential spots.
