JAMMU: Minister for Horticulture, Abdul Rehman Veeri, Monday said 6.48 lakh hectare of agriculture land got affected in the September floods, causing loss to the tune of Rs 5,611.65 crore.
Replying to a question by Syed Farooq Ahmed Indrabi in Legislative Assembly here, the Minister said the government has asked New Delhi to sanction an ex-gratia relief of Rs 2,806 crore in favour of the farmers and orchardists.
“It is 50 per cent of the actual loss these growers have suffered,” he said. “The Budget has proposed to waive off 50 per cent of the KCC loans for the smallest and most vulnerable farmers who have an outstanding balance of less than Rs one lakh. For the purpose, Rs 150 crore has been earmarked,” he added.
Veeri said 90 per cent paddy crops, fruits, and vegetables got adversely damaged in Dooru constituency due to the floods.
