SRINAGAR:The faculty members at Government Medical College Srinagar were summoned Tuesday by the college authorities after a team of Medical council of India made a surprise visit here.
The faculty members told Kashmir Reader that the authorities asked them to produce their qualification and other relevant documents before the MCI team. “ We were asked to bring along the degree and other relevant certificates for scrutiny by the MCI team. Since morning we are waiting outside the GMC premises without any arrangements,” a faculty member said.
As per the faculty members the process of scrutiny started early morning and continued till late evening. “It is 10 PM and we are still waiting for our turn,” the faculty member added.
A female faculty member said that she has three kids at home and the ‘diktat’ by the GMC authorities was making her suffer. “It is shame to detain doctors till late hours for a thing which could have been done in office hours. Was it any medical emergency?”
The faculty members said that there were no food and traffic arrangements in place. “ Is this the work ethics the MCI and the GMC authorities brag about.”
When contacted, GMC principal Dr Rafiq Pampori said that it was a surprise visit by the MCI team. “They are here to verify the credentials of the faculty members of the college,”
He said that development has come in the backdrop of the fake certificate scams that surfaced in many parts of India recently. “Though the MCI checks are not new, the only thing new with this verification process is the surprise visit.”
