Uri residents protest admin failure to clear landslide-hit road

Baramulla: The residents of a border village Silkoot, Uri Monday held a protest against the department of roads and buildings for allegedly failing to clear the road from past many weeks.
The lone road linking the area with other parts of the district was blocked after it was hit by multiple landslides.
The protesters including men and women took blocked the Srinagar- Muzafarabad road near Mand Singh Bridge for an hour as a mark of protest.
They said that no action has been taken to restore traffic on the road which connects this border village with Uri town.
“From past three weeks, the road is blocked but department of roads and building make no efforts to clear it. “
When contacted Sub district magistrate (SDM) Uri, Showqat Ahmad said that he would look into the matter and will redress the grievances. “I am on way to Uri and will see why the villagers were protesting, I will order the concerned department to clear their road within no time,” he said.
