Srinagar: All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee(APSCC) Monday warned the Government of India of “dire consequences” if Kashmiri Pandits are granted minority status as per the recommendations of a Parliamentary Standing Committee.
“We will be forced to launch an agitation if the Government of India accepts these recommendations,” APSCC chairman Jaghmohan Singh Raina told reporters at a press conference here.
“The centre government, particularly rightwing forces, want to dilute the minority act to make a particular community happy,” he said.
“The centre has always played with the sentiments of both Kashmiri Sikhs and Muslims,” he added.
Raina said Government of India was deliberately ignoring the Sikh community’s demand of granting minority status to them despite the recommendations of former chairman National Commission for Minorities Wajahat Habibulah.
He also demand that an independent probe should be held into the Chattisinghpora massacre. “We are not sure who killed people in that village. We want a thorough probe into the matter, ”Raina said. “The way probes have been conducted, it points the needle of suspicion towards the government- sponsored gunmen and security forces,” he added.
