JAMMU: For promotion of the J&K Tourism, the state’s Tourism Department Kashmir participated in India Travel Mart-2015 that was held in Chandigarh from March 21.
The three-day event was inaugurated by Secretary Home/Tourism Chandigarh Anurag Aggarwal.
Elated to see to find a stall of Jammu and Kashmir in the event, the officer advised all the participating tourism boards to convince the people to visit Kashmir.
Bodies of tourism stakeholders from Punjab, Mohali, and Haryana visited the stall. Literature, such as pamphlets, was distributed among them and the other visitors.
Showing interest in visiting Kashmir, the visitors to the stall were demanding more packages particularly to Ladakh region of the state.
Official from the Department including its DGM & Manager reservation attended the event.
The theme and aim of the event was to spread awareness among people who are reluctant to visit Kashmir after recent floods, and to assure the potential tourists that the state’s tourism-related infrastructure is back on track.
“J&K’s participation in the event is expected to result in more tourists visiting the state from Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana,” Director Tourism, Kashmir, Farooq A Shah told Kashmir Reader.
Being geographically closer to Kashmir, Chandigarh and Punjab provide an easy opportunity to tourists to visit Kashmir.
“We can receive a number of tourists who are basically visiting Chandigarh or Punjab,” Shah said, adding that they would continue to make efforts for promotion of J&K Tourism.
