Srinagar: Inspector General of Police, Kashmir SJM Gillani Sunday launched a plantation drive at the Police Control Room ground to mark the World Arbor Day.
In a statement, a police spokesman said Gilani inaugurated the plantation drive by planting the several conifer saplings.
The spokesman said that the IGP has directed all district police heads to promote tree plantations at all police establishments in a bid to contribute in providing pollution free environment to the future generations.
He said that the IGP on this occasion stressed the need to increase the green vegetation in the sprawling PCR complex especially the Parade Ground and the peripheral boundaries.
World Arbor Day is observed every year to promote tree plantations so as to increase the green cover as a major environmental conservation initiative with the aim to curb the pollution.
