PDP worker thrashes forest officials

Baramulla: A senior worker of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) allegedly thrashed several officials of the forest department in Rafiabad area here Saturday.
Officials of the forest department said that a team of forest officials headed by the block officer Rafiabad Pervaiz Ahmad along with some forest protection forces personnel visited the Khumbriyal area of Rafiabad on Saturday morning after receiving inputs about the presence of huge quantity of illicit timber.
In the meantime, a senior PDP worker Zahoor Ahmad Mir along with some of his associates also reached the spot and thrashed the forest officials.
“ Mir and his associates told us that we had no business being in the area as it belonged to PDP workers,” said Farooq Ahmad, one of the forest employees, who was allegedly thrashed by Mir and his supporters.
“They told us that this was PDP’s area and how we had seized timber without their permission,” hesaid.
Range Officer Rafiabad Javid Ahmad Malik said that four employees including block officer of area had been seriously injured in the attack .
“We have decided to lodge an FIR against Mir and his supporters,” he said.
